Like all other car manufacturers, Volkswagen is very economical in the use of spare parts. If you can reuse something that has already been applied or is still being used on another model, that will certainly be done. You will sometimes come across parts that are used for completely different purposes, these rubber gaskets are a good example.
Gearshift lever transverse linkage of the VW Vanagon
On Volkswagen Bus models from 8/1982 onwards, these rings are located between the interfaces where the universal joint connects the gearshift fork to the rear gearshift bar. This protects the universal joint from dust and other dirt so that it can continue to do its universal joint work smoothly and quietly.
Cylinder head studs type 1 (ACD)
On the latest type 1 engines, the sealing of the threaded ends in the cylinder head has been improved by the use of these sealing rings. On all previous Type 1 engines, the bushings are mounted with liquid seal to prevent oil leakage between the threaded rod and the cylinder head. Only the latest type 1 engines starting with engine code ACD are equipped with rubber rings as seals. The washer is first slid over the threaded end, then the washer with the cylinder head nut. These bushings are only on the four threaded rods of the cylinder head, the other four threaded rods are on the outside of the cylinder head and do not require an additional seal.
