When tuning an engine, everything has to be worked out to the last detail. Connecting rods play an important role in this respect, in terms of durability and quality. The original part is therefore quickly discarded, as the possibilities of the original factory parts are very limited, especially when it comes to a performance engine. A perfect engine needs a perfect set of connecting rods developed for more than the standard 50 hp. All connecting rods are made of chrome-molybdenum, in I- or H-profile form, and are supplied in sets of 4 pieces of the same weight, equipped with 87 mm bolts.all connecting rods are made of chrome-molybdenum, in I- or H-profile form, and are supplied in sets of four of the same weight, equipped with 8740 3/8" or 8740 5/16" bolts, which are also available separately as spare parts.
I-shaped connecting rods
The I-rods get their name from their shape, which resembles the original. I-rods are made of 4140 chrome molybdenum and are constructed so that the least amount of material must be removed from the crankcase to accommodate a crankshaft with a stroke of 74 mm or more. The I-connecting rods fit only with VW dowel pins crankshafts (55 mm), are the standard 1300-1500-1600 cc length (137 mm), and have 8740 3/8-inch chrome-moly bolts that must be torqued to 52.8 Nm.
H-shaped connecting rods
These 4340 chrome-moly connecting rods with the shape of the letter H are one-piece and are awarded only to those who want the best of the best available on the market. These H-rods, like the I-rods, are designed to remove as little material from the crankcase as possible. It is recommended to use the super stock crankcase as a base, which is suitable for high horsepower engines and a crankshaft with a longer stroke. The length shown is the length of the connecting rod measured from center to center (standard 1300/1500 or 1600 connecting rods are 137 mm long). Are supplied with ARP 2000 5/16 inch 8740 chrome-moly bolts that can withstand a tensile load of 200,000 psi. These bolts should be torqued to 40.7 Nm and should not be reused if they are stretched more than 0.0508 millimeters. We therefore strongly recommend that they never be reused to eliminate any risk (available separately, see replacement parts tab).
