Rear wheel bearing seals ensure that the lubricant for the wheel bearings remains trapped in the hub. They also ensure that dust and dirt cannot get in.
On models equipped with a rear swing axle*, the bearing is lubricated by gearbox oil, so on these models there is only a retaining ring on one side. This retaining ring plays a very important role, a leaking retaining ring will cause a leak, which will affect your brake system.
On models with independent rear suspension* (IRS), there is one retaining ring on the outside and one on the inside of the bearing, so two retaining rings are required per side.
If you order a set of rear wheel bearings, these retaining rings are included. as for the complete rear axle joint sets for the swing axle system*.
Caution: Press the retaining ring evenly, if it is pressed obliquely, the retaining ring may be damaged and lose its sealing function.
If you are looking for rear wheel bearings, complete sets of rear axle seals or related parts: see the "related parts" tab.
* swing axles can be identified by a sleeve mounted on the gearbox side and in the case of an independent rear suspension (IRS), they are separate axles (with constant velocity) with drive sleeves on both sides.
