A weak point that is affected on most Vanagon and has often been repaired, are the spring plates on the rear wishbones. A repair part is available for this. But if the rust damage becomes extreme, you will have to consider, to get rid of all misery for good, to mount a completely new rear wishbone.
In a top restoration, repair is of course not an issue, then you want the underside to look as new.
The complete rear wishbones mentioned here are the same as the original, with a solid black coating and pressed in support arm rubbers.
