You searched for a part for your distributor. Many different distributors have been used over the years, in many cases they are interchangeable on other engines. The chance that your distributor is not what was installed by Volkswagen at the time is great. If you use our 'Distributor / ignition Tool', all available parts for your distributor are shown.
All modern cars today are equipped with electronic ignition, because this form of ignition has many advantages. The installation of this electronic ignition not only has the advantage that the ignition points never have to be replaced, but also has many other advantages :
- you no longer have contact points, so you don't have to adjust the opening angle of the contact points either
- the new setting is always optimal and your fuel consumption decreases
- there are no more moving parts in the ignition, so there is no risk of ignition problems
- assembly is easier and faster than mounting and adjusting the contact points
- after installation, just set the ignition in time and then you never have to look at it again
To be clear: this electronic ignition is mounted in the existing distributor housing and replaces the contact points and the condenser.
Make sure everything is properly connected, as described in the manual, before starting the engine. If the wiring is mounted incorrectly, the unit will fail immediately. The ignition coil must have a minimum resistance of 3.0 ohms, so a working original ignition coil will do, but check this before starting the engine. If the resistance is too low, the ignition coil will overheat and the module may fail. Once connected, the units cannot be returned.
