Our Volkswagens are full of screws, bolts, nuts and washers, not all manufactured for a particular model, but used universally.
These parts can be identified by their reference number starting with the "N" of the German word Normteile, which means "standard parts".
Although they are standard parts, this does not mean that they are still readily available today.
Always use Volkswagen-specified bolts with the correct tensile strength. Never use bolts that are the same size but have a different tensile strength to the original. The same applies to this 30 mm M8 bolt. It looks like a standard DIY store bolt, but looks can be deceiving. The hardness of this bolt is 10.9 and not 8.8, which is necessary for most applications.
