We must make sure that the heat from the exhaust system is not sucked in by the fan. It is not intended that the engine is cooled by hot air, everything is done to avoid this.
To stop the heat from the exhaust, the heat shield mentioned here is attached to the engine sheet metal. If this shield is no longer present, the engine temperature will rise more than desired and you risk overheating, with all its consequences.
We regularly see rusted and partially broken parts hanging underneath the Volkswagen Bus. Don't leave it like that, but replace the heat shield with this high quality reproduction.
This heat shield is the same as the original, so it is also equipped with insulating material between the spot-welded sheet metal parts.
