In order to create more space, most motorhome manufacturers have used a pop-up roof with a tent canvas on the sides with recesses (windows) for extra fresh air.
Westfalia worked closely with Volkswagen from the beginning, VW supplied the bodywork and Westfalia converted it into a motorhome. There are few classic Volkswagens left where the canvas is still in good condition, after a while it starts to fade, holes appear or the original colour is faded by the sun. All the more reason to pay attention to this so that your holiday is not disrupted by irritation.
Before starting, it is advisable to first take a few photos of the current situation, which may be useful later as a reminder during replacement.
Tent fabrics are available for most years of construction with one or three windows and in the original colours orange, yellow, grey or beige.
The windows can be opened from the inside using a zipper and are equipped with insect screens, as well as from the front to access a luggage rack that may have been installed.
Our tent fabrics are identical to the original in terms of material, colour fastness and fit and are therefore among the most frequently assembled fabrics by professionals.
The strip that neatly finishes the tent fabric in the lifting area is available as an option.
If you own a Volkswagen Bus built between 1967 and 1979 (Bay Window), check whether the hinge point of the pop-up roof is at the front or at the rear. If you have a motor home with a Westfalia roof that was fitted afterwards, the year of manufacture may not correspond to the hinge point.
Note : Up to and including 5/1984, the tent canvas is stapled, it is screwed down for subsequent construction years, as an additional marker if you cannot determine the exact year of construction.
Attention : Please note that our tent fabrics are hand-made. Therefore, it is possible that the windows may deviate slightly in height and width, resulting in a difference in the height and/or width of the windows. Once the roof canvas has been installed, it cannot be returned over for this reason, please check the dimensions of the product before installation.
